From February to September 2024, BOCS Services has been hosting a transformative Literacy Symposium designed to equip new immigrants and seniors within the Peel region with essential job skills. This ongoing event is part of our commitment to empower these communities through education and career training, helping them transition smoothly into the Canadian workforce.

Bridging the Gap for Newcomers

Moving to a new country or navigating the job market as a senior can be daunting, especially without the right support. That’s why our Literacy Symposium focuses on providing comprehensive training in key areas such as customer service, logistics, resume writing, and interview skills. Through these targeted workshops, participants are gaining the tools they need to secure meaningful employment, increase their self-confidence, and integrate more fully into their communities.

A Look Back at the Key Sessions

  1. Customer Service Job Training
Customer service is one of the most in-demand skills across various industries. Our training sessions have helped participants develop critical communication, conflict resolution, and customer interaction skills. By using role-playing exercises and real-world scenarios, attendees have learned how to deliver excellent service and handle workplace challenges with professionalism.
  2. Logistics Job Training
Logistics is another growing field in the Peel region, and our workshops have equipped participants with a foundational understanding of supply chain management, inventory control, and shipping procedures. This training is invaluable for those interested in pursuing careers in warehousing, transportation, and logistics management.
  3. Resume Writing & Interview Skills
Landing a job begins with a great resume and a strong interview. Our dedicated sessions on resume writing helped participants tailor their work history and skills to align with Canadian job market expectations. Additionally, we provided hands-on interview coaching, including mock interviews, to help them practice and refine their responses, build confidence, and make a lasting impression on potential employers.

Ongoing Support for Participants

The Literacy Symposium isn’t just about learning skills; it’s about ongoing support. As participants complete their training, our organization continues to provide job search assistance, mentorship, and access to a network of local employers who are eager to hire qualified candidates. We also offer follow-up workshops and one-on-one coaching to ensure that participants remain competitive in the job market.

Making an Impact in Peel Region

So far, the symposium has positively impacted dozens of lives, helping new immigrants and seniors build pathways to stable, rewarding careers. By offering these specialized services, we aim to enhance financial independence, foster community integration, and improve the quality of life for individuals in the Peel region.
