BOCS Supports 87 Low-Income Families, Newcomers and Refugees with Tax Filing in Peel Region

Bethel Outreach Community Services (BOCS) supports low-income families, newcomers and refugees in Peel Region with financial education and tax filing assistance. The goal is to empower individuals with the knowledge and support they need to manage their finances confidently.

This year, we’re proud to announce that we successfully supported 87 low-income families, newcomers, and refugees across the Peel Region in completing their 2024 tax returns with confidence and peace of mind.

Filing taxes can be overwhelming, especially for new immigrants, refugees, and families unfamiliar with Canadian tax systems. That’s why BOCS designed a free, inclusive tax support program focused not just on filing, but on empowering our community through education and guidance.

We provided

  • One-on-one assistance in gathering and organizing their documents
  • Group sessions and mini-lectures on understanding Canadian taxes, benefits, and required documents
  • Free tax filing services with the help of trained volunteers and community partners
  • Support in multiple languages and culturally sensitive service
  • Referrals to additional support services when needed

Our program reached

  • New immigrants and refugees adjusting to life in Canada
  • Low-income families balancing daily needs with financial responsibilities
  • Seniors and individuals with limited digital literacy.
